The Great Mughal Diamond

The Great Mughal

Weight: 793 Carats
The Great Mughal is one of the planets biggest precious stones. The biggest precious stone ever found in India. The unpleasant jewel was uncovered in the seventeenth century, weighed 793 carats and was named after Shah Jahan... developer of the Taj Mahal.

It was uncovered as a 787-carat harsh stone in the Golconda mines in 1650 and along these lines was cut by the Venetian lapidary Hortentio Borgis. The French gem merchant Jean-Baptiste Tavernier portrayed it in 1665 as a high-delegated rose-cut stone with an imperfection at the lowest part and a little spot inside.

Consequently the way that the stone can never again be found is not sufficient motivation to deny its previous presence. Some accept that the Koh-I-Noor jewel may have been cut from this stone after its misfortune after the death of its manager, Nadir Shah, in 1747.
